So I’m finally tackling my kitchen after years of saying “next year,” but oh man — prices are wild out there. I thought repainting the cabinets and swapping the hardware would be simple, but even basic stuff is adding up fast. I don’t want to go all out with luxury finishes, just want something that looks nice and won’t break in two months. Anyone find good affordable sources or tricks recently?

I was in the same boat last fall. Ended up skipping the big-box stores and checked out smaller suppliers. I got most of my supplies through a local shop and found some solid stuff online. For example, I replaced two old sliding windows with ones from buildmart windows way more budget-friendly than I expected, and they didn’t feel cheap at all. That freed up some budget to do more with the backsplash.
It always surprises me how much little upgrades can change a space. I walked into my cousin’s place last weekend — she just added new lighting and swapped out the cabinet pulls, and the whole room felt different. Nothing major, but it didn’t feel like the same kitchen. Goes to show, you don’t always need a full reno to make it feel fresh.
